Food Plant Freight Lift|Seamless Stainless Steel Car|4.5m Travel from 350mm Shallow Pit

POSTED: 5/8/2026

Visión general

Project type: Hydraulic guide rail lifts (dual lifts)
General contractor: A major domestic construction group (with extensive overseas project experience, serving multiple multinational corporations)
End user: Local production base of a multinational food group
Key features: Food-grade stainless steel cars + 2:1 speed hydraulic cylinders + interlock system + high aesthetic requirements
Key challenges: Two lifts with different travel heights (4.5m / 3.6m), food industry cleanliness and corrosion resistance, interlocking of doors, platform and leveling pushers, timed shutdown password control

Client Background & Industry Requirements

Xintu (Jiaxing) Digital Technology is engaged in PV power generation testing. The client tests how different solar panel orientations affect power output, providing data for PV tracker optimization and inverter matching. Traditional fixed racks or manual adjustments cannot achieve continuous, precise, automated testing.

This turntable is installed outdoors, carrying PV panels, inverters and cables with a total weight of 8.5 tons and platform diameter 8.5 meters. High rigidity, rotation accuracy, electrical reliability and remote control are critical.

Solución

1. Food-grade stainless steel car: full 304 stainless steel, seamless construction

  • Car floor: 4mm carbon steel (load-bearing layer) + 2mm thick 304 stainless steel chequer plate (surface layer) – combines strength with hygiene
  • Car side panels & roof: 0.5mm thick 304 stainless steel sheet, bent and formed, no visible seams or weld spatter, fully welded and polished
  • Door frames and curtain housings: All made of 304 stainless steel, matching the car‘s appearance
  • Floor surface: 304 stainless steel chequer plate – anti‑slip and easy to clean

Advantage: All visible surfaces are stainless steel, meeting international food industry GMP cleanliness requirements. The seamless design eliminates debris hiding spots and withstands high‑pressure water washing and food‑grade disinfectants.

2. 2:1 speed hydraulic cylinders: large travel from a shallow pit

Utilice 2:1 speed hydraulic cylinders (stroke doubled via chain/wire rope pulley mechanisms). Cylinder specification: Φ80-60 × 2 units. A 2.25m cylinder stroke produces a 4.5m car travel. The cylinders are installed vertically inside the pit, which only needs to accommodate the cylinder bottom and connections.

Advantage: Achieves large travel from a very shallow pit, eliminating deep excavation and saving about 30% on civil works costs and construction time.

3. Three stops & through‑type access

  • Car size: 3000×1800×2200mm. Through‑type along the 3000mm direction allows bi‑directional entry/exit.
  • Two opposite high‑speed rolling doors on the second floor, coordinated by PLC logic to realise “enter from one side, exit from the opposite side” straight‑through material flow.
  • Doors on each floor are interlocked with the lift platform and the leveling pushers: if a door is open, the platform cannot move; if the platform is not at the landing, the door cannot open.

Advantage: Through‑type design greatly improves material handling efficiency, fitting “U‑shaped” or “straight‑line” production line layouts.

2 floors / 3 stops

4. Safety interlock & timed shutdown password control

  • Domestic PLC programming + Delixi low‑voltage components – cost‑effective and meeting essential CE safety requirements
  • Triple interlock: doors, lift platform, and four‑point mechanical leveling pushers. When the platform reaches a landing, the pushers extend and lock. Only when the pushers are locked and all doors are closed can the platform move. After the platform leaves, the doors cannot be opened.
  • Shutdown password: The equipment automatically stops after 1.5 months of power‑on time, and again after one cumulative year of operation. A password must be entered to resume operation. This forces periodic maintenance and inspection – a feature that has helped many food plants reduce unplanned downtime.

Advantage: Meets the high safety management and preventive maintenance standards of multinational food companies.

Principle Explanation

5. Rail segmentation & on‑site assembly

Solución: Guide rails (125H steel) are cut to lengths matching the floor heights, each rail packed separately. The client assembles them on‑site with detailed drawings and remote guidance. The design ensures that the rails are 200mm inside the platform edges on each side to avoid interference.

Advantage: Reduces single‑piece shipping size, fits standard containers or trucks; convenient for on‑site lifting in confined spaces.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES

We use 2:1 speed hydraulic cylinders (also called “duplex” or “double‑speed” cylinders). The cylinder stroke is about 2.25m, then magnified through a chain/rope pulley system to lift the car 4.5m. The cylinders stand vertically in the shallow pit, eliminating deep excavation and saving substantial civil work costs.

“2 floors / 3 stops” means there are only two physical floors, but the second floor has two opposite openings (through‑type access). Material enters the car on the ground floor, rises to the second floor, and can exit from either side – creating a straight‑through or U‑shaped material flow without turning the forklift or cart. This greatly improves handling efficiency.

The triple interlock consists of:

  • Door interlock – If a door is open, the platform cannot move.
  • Landing interlock – If the platform is not precisely at floor level, the door cannot open.
  • Mechanical pusher interlock – When the platform reaches a landing, four mechanical pushers extend and lock the platform in position, preventing unintended sinking. Only then can the door open. Before the pushers retract, the door cannot close.

This system effectively prevents accidents such as personnel or forklifts falling into the shaft, unauthorised platform movement, and platform drift.

Yes. Gradin has supplied lifting equipment to customers in multiple countries and can provide complete CE technical documentation (Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive). We also support third‑party certification audits. The interlocks, stainless steel craftsmanship, and password shutdown feature of this project already meet essential EU safety requirements.
