Yichang Baimao Trading supplies equipment to Sinohydro 14, a state-owned enterprise producing wind tower sections and pressure pipes. During pipe manufacturing, welding and coating require 90° tilting – from horizontal to vertical/angled position. Manual crane tilting is inefficient and hazardous.

Solution

2.1 Heavy‑duty hydraulics: 20 tons + large cylinder

Approach: 20-ton capacity – far above typical 5-10t tilters. Selected φ150-105 cylinder, 11kW pump unit. Tilt time adjustable within 10 minutes – balance of safety and efficiency.

Advantage: Large cylinder provides ample thrust margin; hydraulic throttle control ensures smooth speed.

2.2 Large workpiece adaptability: V‑groove + custom L‑shape platform

Approach: Pipe diameter spans 2.5-7m. Added V‑groove along the 3m direction of the platform – automatically centers pipes of different diameters, preventing rolling during tilt.

Platform shape: 3×4.8m + 4.8×7m arranged at 90°, forming an L‑shaped tilter. Workpiece rests on one wing, hydraulically rotated 90° to transfer to the other wing.

Advantage: V‑groove eliminates tooling changeover; L‑shape suits long workpieces.

2.3 Safety & process control

Approach:

• Adjustable tilt speed, max 10 minutes to avoid impact
